EPION

Our History

Early psychosis intervention (EPI) services in Ontario started collaborating formally in 1999. Originally called the Ontario Working Group (OWG), this grass-roots initiative was a collaboration of researchers and clinicians, community agencies, families and persons with lived experience across the province. The initial focus was advocacy within the health care system and government for recognition of (and funding for), early psychosis intervention.

Leadership Team

EPION is led by a volunteer leadership team of Executive members and Working Group Chairs. They are responsible for the effective overall operation of the network and they are accountable to the membership.

WHY EARLY PSYCHOSIS INTERVENTION?

Program Standards for Early Psychosis Intervention

Early Psychosis Programs are found across Ontario and guided by mandated standards to:

y

Reduce the duration of untreated psychosis through early and appropriate detection and response, thereby potentially reducing the severity of the illness.

y

Minimize the disruption in the lives of adolescents and young adults who experience psychosis so they can reintegrate and maintain educational, vocational, social and other roles.

y

Minimize the societal impact of psychosis including reducing demand in other areas of the mental health, health and social service systems and reducing disruption in the lives of families.
